Read a card that says “Apply 3 Weak” and what happens is the Weak power lands on the enemy, a status effect that outlives the card once its own text resolves. Each of the 257 powers carries a Buff or Debuff tag and a rule for how it stacks, and nearly everything else in the game (cards, relics, potions) points back at one of them. Some climb in number the more you apply them; others just refresh their timer and go no higher, so two powers with similar names don’t always play the same. Learn the common ones first. They turn up in nearly every fight on the climb.
Buffs outnumber Debuffs by a wide margin, 205 to 52, but nothing here only helps you. Strength, Dexterity, and Vigor make whoever holds them hit harder, player or boss alike. Debuffs like Weak, Vulnerable, Frail, and Poison work the other way, dragging a target down instead of building one up. A boss piling on Strength is just as dangerous as a Weak stack sitting on your own character.
Powers split into two stacking rules, and Counter is by far the more common: 216 of the 257 powers use it. Counter powers pile up in number. Poison ticks for its stack count then drops by one; Strength adds its full value to every hit. Single powers like Adaptable, Barricade, and the Back Attack line don’t accumulate at all. Reapply one and it just refreshes instead of climbing higher.
