The Bestiary fills in as you kill things, and all 180 entries hide a blurb funnier than a monster manual has any business being. Poncle spends four separate bat entries insisting, at length, that the bats are just bats. Everything below runs in Bestiary order: entry 1 is the Pipeestrello you meet thirty seconds into Mad Forest, entry 119 is The Reaper. Next to the lore sit the numbers that decide a fight (base health, contact damage, move speed, the XP a kill drops, and where each monster spawns).
Base health is what the game spawns a monster with at minute zero, and almost nothing holds that value for long. Enemies gain health as the clock runs, Curse multiplies it again, and Inverse doubles the stage total before either of those lands. A Zombie’s 10 HP is honest for about a minute and fiction by minute twenty. Forty-five entries go further: their health locks in at spawn, multiplied by whatever character level you’ve reached, which is why Dragon Shrimp and Lionhead get worse precisely because the run is going well.
Contact damage is the main threat for most of this roster. Brush a Werewolf and you take 14. Brush The Reaper and you take 65,535, which is the game being polite about it. Thirty entries ignore walls, so Gallo Tower’s corridors stop working as cover once one shows up, and 68 can’t be knocked back at all because their published knockback is a flat zero. Another 21 shrug off the Rosary, The Reaper among them, which is why the screen-clear sometimes doesn’t clear the screen.
