Difficulty, bite windows, and spawn spots for every catch in the valley
Data from build 16826371, updated
64 fish come off a rod and another 10 pull out of crab pots, and neither type bites without season, weather, and time window all lining up first. Behavior matters as much as difficulty. A dart or sinker pattern plays differently than a smooth one, no matter how many rods you’ve upgraded through. The five legendary fish, Angler, Crimsonfish, Glacierfish, Legend, and Mutant Carp, have harder Ginger Island counterparts too: Ms. Angler, Son of Crimsonfish, Glacierfish Jr., Legend II, and Radioactive Carp. A third of the roster shows up in every season, steadier catches than any of the five legendaries.
Difficulty runs from 0 to 110 and sets how fast the icon darts around the catch bar; it has nothing to do with how rare the fish actually is. Legend sits at the very top of that scale, the hardest catch in the game, while a beginner fish like Sardine barely moves. A high number means slow down and pay attention to the bar, not that you need to hunt down some secret spawn point.
A fish won’t bite unless four things line up together: season, weather (sunny, rainy, or both), a bite window that’s sometimes just a couple of hours wide, and the specific tile the game has it spawning on. Miss any one of the four and the line comes back with trash and old boots instead of a fish. The mountain lake and the ocean pier both hide fish that only show up under one of those narrow windows.
